The ASX 200 finished a volatile week up +0.2%, almost as if Thursdays ~2% plunge to fresh four month lows didn’t exist. The weekly change masked significant volatility as investors digested the RBA’s fourth rate hike of 2026 alongside softer-than-expected inflation data. Technology was the standout sector, surging 7.3%, while the dominant theme remained interest rates, with the cash rate reaching a 15-year high of 4.6%, although softer CPI and Governor Bullock’s subsequent comments tempered expectations for further tightening.

The Metrics saga

Hi How much reputational damage do you think Metrics and their listed entities will suffer because of the ongoing saga with getting their accounts signed off by their auditors? The shares are still suspended as I write this after the close on Thursday and it doesn't look like they're any closer to a resolution of the problem. Do you expect that the shares will be hammered when they are allowed to trade again or is most of the bad news already accounted for in the share price? Cheers, Carl

Morning Gents, It's only Monday, so things may have changed. So, Gold Fields successfully took Gold Road Resources very recently and now they've made what I imagine to be just an opening bid for Northern Star. Do you think they'll pursue this and would it potentially be a good deal for NST shareholders?
